Off shore industry Buoys
Buoys made of synthetic material with solar panels, developed by Rombouts Kunststof Techniek, have saved the Dutch Ministry of Waterways and Public Works millions. The old iron buoys had to be taken out of the water every 2.5 years and sand-blasted, painted and fitted with a new chain. This time-consuming and expensive procedure is now consigned to the past due to Rombouts’ innovative solution. In addition to the 7,000 buoys in Dutch waters alone, worldwide there is considerable interest in buoys made from synthetic material. Rombouts has developed the buoys in conjunction with a company from Almelo and a French firm. In the coming years between 200 and 500 plastic buoys are expected to be produced.
